June 24, 2025

The first real taste of summer challenged Norwalk Professional Firefighters from Platoon 3 as they responded to over 50 calls for service during the 24hour period on Tuesday, June 24th including a house fire in the Broad River Section of the City at 11:40am.

The full assignment for box 1422 was dispatched to 8 Godfrey St for a reported fire on the second floor and attic.

Rescue Co. 2 and Engine Co. 1 arrived to find a 2.5 story multi family house with smoke and fire showing from a top floor window.

The fire was contained and extinguished in 30 minutes by a 1st alarm assignment consisting of 3 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 Rescue Company, and the Shift Commander; with 26 Norwalk Professional Firefighters operating on scene.

The top floor unit suffered heavy smoke and fire damage with additional smoke damage throughout the structure. 4 families are being relocated by Red Cross.

The extreme heat and humidity challenged firefighting efforts as temperatures soared to around 100 degrees. One NFD Local 830 firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital with a heat related illness and is in stable condition. Norwalk Hospital EMS also assisted on scene with rehab. There were no reported injuries to civilians. The Norwalk Fire Marshals Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
