City of Norwalk Professional Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) incident on Tuesday, January 6th at 7:42 AM.
The incident was located at 8 Willard Rd in a 2-story commercial building. The initial call was for a medical emergency within the building. Upon entry, Engine Co. 4 detected elevated carbon monoxide (CO) levels inside the building using standard hazardous detection meters carried on all medical emergencies.
Engine Co. 4 located and removed the patient and evacuated all other occupants from the building. Engine Co. 4 updated the response assignment, adding a Truck Co. 1 , Rescue Co. 2, Car 2 (Shift Commander), and Safety Units with a total of 15 NFD Local 830 Firefighters.
NFD Firefighters located and shut down the source of the carbon monoxide, then ventilated the building until CO levels were reduced to 0 parts per million (ppm).
The incident lasted approximately one hour. Six occupants were evaluated on scene and one patient was transported to Norwalk Hospital. The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the incident.
