Station 2 is Norwalk’s largest and newest fire station. It is centrally located within the city and serves as fire headquarters for the City of Norwalk Fire Department and the Norwalk Professional Fire Fighters Local 830 Union office. It is home to Engine Co. 2, Truck Co. 2, Rescue Co. 2, and Car 2 (Shift Commander), Tactical Support Unit 1 (Tac 1) the Office of the Fire Chief, fire administration, the Bureau of the Fire Marshal’s office, the Office of Emergency Management, and the City of Norwalk Emergency Operations (EOC).
It is consistently the busiest station in the city known as “The House of Pain” and encompasses a very diverse district with many different types of hazards. Those hazards range from residential neighborhoods, high density multi story apartments, commercial occupancies including those that line the Connecticut Ave and West Ave corridors and busy Washington St in “SoNo”. Brien McMahon High School , Norwalk Hospital, King Industries, the Maritime Aquarium and the 700,000+ sq. ft. retail shopping mall known as the “SoNo Collections” are just a few of the high profile buildings in their first due. Station 2’s first due area also includes Interstate 95 and a large portion of the Metro North Commuter Railroad system. Engine Co. 2 is staffed with a Lieutenant and 3 firefighters. Truck Company 2 is staffed with a Captain and 3 firefighters. Rescue Company 2 is staffed with a Captain and 3 firefighters which also Cross-staffs Tac 1. Car 2 is staffed with a Deputy Chief and a firefighter/ Chiefs Aide.
