NFD Firefighters Encounter Heavy Fire on Arrival on Tyron Rd

At 1:18pm on Friday, June 27th. City of Norwalk Professional Firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at 4 Tyron Rd in “Norwalk Center/The Green” section of the City behind City Hall.
Engine Co. 4 from the Westport Ave Fire Station arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a two-story wood-frame dwelling. NFD Companies made entry and stretched two hoselines into structure to mount an aggressive interior attack with fire located on both levels of the home as primary searches were simultaneously being conducted by Rescue Co. 2 and Truck Co. 2. During their primary search, firefighters located a dog, which was unconscious from smoke inhalation, the K-9 was moved to the front yard and quickly assessed by NFD firefighters and Norwalk Hospital EMS personnel. The K-9 was transported to the Norwalk Emergency Vet, and is expected to make a full recovery.
The fire was contained within 40 minutes by a first alarm assignment consisting of 26 Norwalk Professional Firefighters with 3 Engine Companies, 2 Ladder Companies, a Heavy Rescue Company, Shift Commander and additional Command Staff.
One NFD Local 830 firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital with a hand injury. No civilian injuries were reported. Two individuals have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
During this incident Engine Co. 1 & Engine Co. 5 covered the city and responded to multiple calls for service.
