NFD Firefighter Injured at 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire on Grand St.

City of Norwalk Professional Firefighters responded to an apartment building fire on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 10:42 PM. The fire was located at 25 Grand St. which was built in 1903 and was once a hat factory before being converted into a 2 story apartment building. The initial call reported a fire in the bathroom ceiling of a first-floor unit.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the fire burning in the walls of adjacent first floor units in addition to the ceiling between the first and second floors. The fire was extinguished in 35 minutes by a 2nd alarm assignment consisting of 4 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 Heavy Rescue Company and the Shift Commander with a total of 30 NFD Local 830 Firefighters operating on scene with support from additional command staff. Two, first-floor units sustained fire and smoke damage. All occupants exited the building. Several pets were safely removed by firefighters.
 
One firefighter sustained a minor injury while removing a pet from the fire apartment. There were no reported injuries to civilians. The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating the cause of the fire. During this incident, the last remaining NFD Engine company along with Mutual Aid from the Town of New Canaan FD and Town of Westport FD provided in-station coverage for the City.
