Norwalk Professional Firefighters Extinguish Car Carrier Fire on I-95 |

Just before 0600hrs on April 9th, The NFD was dispatched to a reported car carrier on fire on I-95 South in the area of Exit 14. The initial dispatch included Engine 2, Engine 3, Car 2 (Shift Commander) and Tac 1 (highway blocking truck). Engine 2 arrived and reported a car carrier trailer with multiple vehicles on fire. Due to the lack of water sources on I-95 and 4 of the 6 vehicles on the trailer were on fire. Engine 1 was requested for water supply and extra manpower as well as a tanker from the City of Stamford Professional Firefighters as a precaution. The fire was knocked down by the 16 Norwalk Professional Firefighters that operated on scene. NFD companies remained on scene as specialized towing equipment was requested to remove the cars and trailer to reopen the roadway. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshals Division. |
