NFD Responds to House Fire on WillIam St

NFD Local 830 firefighters extinguished a house fire on Wednesday, March 6, 2024
at 4:15 PM. 
 
Engine 4, Engine 3, Engine 2 (RIT), Truck 1, Truck 2, Rescue 2 and Car 2 (Shift Commander) responded to 9 William St for a reported kitchen fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 4 encountered heavy smoke coming from a 2 story single family house.

Due to a rapid response and aggressive tactics from the 25 Norwalk Professional Firefighters that operated on scene. The main body of the fire was extinguished in 25 minutes and contained to the kitchen and hallway of the 1st floor with significant smoke and heat damage on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Two occupants and one pet were able to safely exit the house prior to the fire departments arrival and are receiving assistance at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshals Division.

This incident was immediately followed by 3 back to back to back structural fire assignments that were handled by the 33 on-duty firefighters of NFD Local 830 in addition to the numerous other emergencies occurring throughout the city on Wednesday afternoon.
