NFD Firefighters Operate at Back to Back Fires

At 08:06hrs on Wednesday May 17th, Engine Co. 3 and Truck Co. 2 were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at 11 Prowitt St in East Norwalk.

Engine Co. 3 arrived on scene and encountered smoke coming from the basement level of the 1 ½ story residential dwelling. The assignment was immediately updated adding Engine Co. 4, Engine Co. 2 as RIT, Truck Co. 1, Rescue Co. 2 and Car 2 (Shift Commander) to the scene. Engine Co. 3 quickly stretched a hoseline and located a fire in the basement division as Truck Co. 2 completed primary searches of the residence.

Due to the prompt response of the 25 Norwalk Professional Firefighters that operated on scene, the fire was extinguished in just 16 minutes and contained to the area of origin. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the NFD Fire Marshal’s Division. The American Red Cross is currently assisting the 6 occupants that have been displaced.

NFD Engine Companies 1 and 5 relocated to Stations 2 and 4 to cover the city while other NFD units operated at the fire scene.

This is the 5th working fire that NFD Local 830 Firefighters have operated at during the month of May.
