| City of Norwalk Fire Department Marine Unit 229 responded to a distressed kayaker whose paddle had broken, leaving him unable to control the kayak in the strong tidal current on the Long Island Sound. The kayaker was also without a life vest. Marine Unit 229 quickly located the kayaker and safely brought them back to shore.
Marine Unit 229 and Marine Unit 238 are cross-staffed by Engine Co. 3 from Van Zant St Fire Station located in East Norwalk. On weekends during the summer months, Our Marine Unit Operators provide dedicated staffing for Marine Unit 229 to ensure a swift and safe response to any incident on the water in the Norwalk area and allows us to keep Engine Co. 3 in service to provide vital fire suppression and emergency medical services for the "East Side" of the City.
