| After a slight “hiccup” at last years Norwalk Holiday Extravaganza. When an individual from a 3rd party vendor dressed as Santa Clause was rappelling down the side of 50 Washington St when part of his costume became entangled in the rigging and he became stuck in place approximately 60 feet in the air. This required NFD Local 830 Firefighters to rescue said Santa from the precarious situation.
Following that incident, the City of Norwalk Fire Department took over the rappelling portion of the event for 2025.
City of Norwalk Professional Firefighters assigned to Rescue Co. 2 and other companies devised a plan and practiced repelling down the 13 story building weeks in advance to ensure a safe and smooth event.
To the delight of those in attendance, NFD Local Firefighters and brothers Dennis Dustin and David Dustin who played Santa and the Grinch (how fitting!) repelled down the side of the building and added some dramatic flair as they “pretended” to seal Christmas presents from one another as they descended down before the tree lighting.
We’d like to thank the NFD Local 830 members that stepped up to make this event happen as well as those that worked the “Firewatch” Engine Company and Deputy Fire Marshals assigned to the event to ensure all those in attendance enjoyed the Fourth Annual Holiday Extravaganza safely. |
