On November 6th shortly after 8Pm. NFD Engine Co. 1 from the Broad River Fire Station was requested Mutual Aid to the scene of a house fire on Louises Lane in the Town of New Canaan.

Norwalk Professional Firefighters with Engine Co. 1 and Car 7 (Safety) responded to the scene and operated for nearly two hours alongside career and volunteer firefighters from numerous CT and NY area fire departments as they worked to extinguish the stubborn fire. Due to that area of New Canaan lacking a municipal water main system. Firefighters were forced to draft water out of a nearby pool and utilize mutual aid tankers to establish a positive water supply.

Your Norwalk Professional Firefighters are here for you and our Neighbors when needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

Fun fact: Within the City of Norwalk are several areas that are considered “Tanker Boxes” which are pre determined special alarm assignments for areas of the City with water supply concerns.

Since the City of Norwalk Fire Department does not have their own “Tanker” to provide a positive water supply for initial fire suppression operations at fires when the structure is over 1,000 ft. from a fire hydrant, or in areas where water volume is low or compromised. The NFD relies on inter-agency mutual aid agreements for these services, most notably the “Tanker Task Force” from the City of Stamford FD, Town of Canaan, Town of Wilton, and Town of Darien.
